Week Two-– Gratitude with Your Breakfast
Welcome to Week Two of Mundane Witchcraft: Finding Magic in the Everyday. This week, we’ll explore the transformative power of gratitude and how to weave it into one of the simplest daily rituals—your morning drink.
Gratitude is a cornerstone of magical practice, yet it’s often overlooked. We spend so much time focusing on what we need or want that we forget to pause and give thanks for the blessings we already have. This week’s spell is a gentle reminder of how healing and empowering it can be to express our gratitude intentionally.
Why Gratitude Matters
Gratitude doesn’t just enhance your spiritual practice—it improves your mental and physical health. Studies show that expressing gratitude can lower stress, improve mood, and even reduce anxiety. By pairing gratitude with a mindful morning ritual, you’ll create a foundation of positivity to carry you through the day.
The Ritual: My Version
Here’s an example of how I incorporate gratitude into my morning drink:
Prepare the Ingredients:
I brew a special tea blend the night before, combining roses, chamomile, cinnamon, apple mint, and stinging nettle. Each ingredient is charged with intention as I name its purpose aloud. For example:
“I charge this apple mint to boost my metabolism.”
“I charge this nettle to ease my allergies.”
Give Thanks:
Before brewing, I thank the universe for the ingredients:“Thank you for these roses. May they bring me energy to get through the day.”
“Thank you for this chamomile. May it help me relax and enjoy the day.”
Set the Scene:
After brewing, I pour the tea into my favorite mug and head outside to my porch, which faces east. I pour a small sip onto the ground as an offering and say, “Earth, thank you for the nourishment of your land. I give this token in honor of all you do.”Reflect and Sip:
I sit on my porch swing, watch the sun rise, and reflect on what I’m thankful for while sipping my tea. When finished, the tea leaves go into my compost to return their magic to the earth.
Creating Your Version of the Ritual
Choose Your Drink:
Whether you drink coffee, tea, or juice, use whatever feels right to you. If you don’t add anything to your drink, simply stir it with intention.Set an Intention of Gratitude:
Decide what you’re thankful for. For example:“I am grateful for my job.”
“I am thankful for this quiet moment.”
Create a sigil for your gratitude (refer to Lesson One for guidance) and stir it into your drink.
Offer Thanks:
Take your drink outside, or near a window where the sun is visible. Face east and pour a small sip onto the ground, into a compost bin, or into a small cup as an offering. Say a simple spell of thanks, such as:“Earth, thank you for the nourishment of your land. May this offering honor your gifts.”
Reflect While Drinking:
As you drink, think about the things you’re grateful for and reflect on what they mean to you. Carry that sense of gratitude with you throughout the day.
The Purpose of This Ritual
This spell isn’t about achieving perfect positivity every day—it’s a grounding practice to help you start your day in a calm, intentional state. Life will still have its stresses, but gratitude can offer perspective and ease the burden of negative emotions.
When we focus on gratitude, we remind ourselves that even in challenging times, there are blessings to be found. Over time, this practice can help shift your mental energy, fostering a more positive outlook and a deeper connection to the magic in your life.
Your Magical Week
This week, make gratitude your focus. Journal your thoughts each day—what you’re grateful for, how this practice affects your mood, and any insights you gain. Gratitude is a powerful, healing force, and by practicing it intentionally, you’ll strengthen your ability to navigate life with grace and magic.
Let this simple ritual remind you of the beauty in the everyday, and watch how it transforms your mornings—and your spirit.
